Let's be real, the real meaning of Valentine's Day has gotten washed out by traditional cliches. It's really about celebrating the complexities of love in all of our relationships: friendships, community, and family. Don't forget to tell those people that you love them! ...And making these delicious red velvet cookies is a love language in itself :)
Ingredients:(makes about 30 cookies)
2 cups all-purpose flour1/2 cup Dutch process cocoa powder1 tsp baking soda1 tsp kosher salt1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature3/4 cup packed brown sugar1/2 cup granulated sugar1 egg1 tsp red gel paste food coloring2 tsp pure vanilla extract1 cup Fortune Favors The Classic candied pecans, coarsely chopped1 12-oz pkg semisweet or dark chocolate chips
Directions:
- Heat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugars until combined (using an electric mixer or by hand). Add egg, food coloring and vanilla and mix until just combined.
- Add flour mixture and mix until just combined. Fold in The Classic pecans and chocolate chips.
- Scoop heaping spoonfuls of dough onto prepared sheets, spacing 1½ inches apart.
- Bake cookies, rotating positions of pans on racks halfway through, until darker around edges, 9 to 12 minutes total.
- Let cool 5 minutes on pans, then slide parchment (and cookies) onto wire rack and let cool at least 5 minutes more before serving.
